Maya de Vitry is a Pennsylvania-raised, Nashville-based singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. She grew up calling many musical settings home— old-time music festivals, symphony orchestras, and campfire song circles. At 18 she began traveling intently, spending weeks and then months busking around North America and Europe. Maya became intoxicated by these experiences of people and places, as well as the patience, resilience, reflection and empathy that the unknown asked of her.
She has spent the last six years touring the United States, Canada, and Europe with the celebrated Americana band The Stray Birds. On stage and in the studio, Maya’s compelling voice and songwriting have been an anchor and a force in the band. Their debut album The Stray Birds (2012) and their latest release, Magic Fire (2016), were both named to the Top 10 Folk & Americana Albums of the Year by NPR, and her song “Best Medicine” took home Song of the Year at the 2015 International Folk Music Awards.
At home in Nashville, Maya enjoys writing and exploring the Tennessee outdoors.
